OTTAWA, ON – Selected in the 5th round of the 2021 Central Canada Hockey League Bantam Protected Draft by the Ottawa Junior Senators, Ottawa, ON native Owen Protz has been a steady two-way presence on the back-end thus far in his rookie season of HEO U18 AAA.

Protz is a versatile two-way left-handed defenseman whose skating ability is on display in all areas of the ice. His versatility is embedded in his ability to thrive on both sides of the ice and in all game situations. The combination of Protz’s footwork, poise, and smart decision making enables him to evade pressure from forecheckers and facilitate successful breakouts for his team.

Additionally, Protz routinely relies on his size to separate the puck carrier from the puck and deny dangerous chances from materializing. Protz shines while quarterbacking the OJS powerplay as he is able to identify passing lanes to teammates in scoring positions and he possesses a powerful shot that produces a dual-threat from the point.

Through 21 games, Protz sits 4th overall in rookie defenseman scoring this season with 10 points (4G, 6A), while averaging close to 18 minutes of action per game.

Prior to playing U18 AAA, Protz came up through the Ottawa Jr 67’s AAA and Ottawa Sting AA programs.
