ROOKIE SPOTLIGHT: YANIC CRETE – HAWKESBURY HAWKS MIDGET AAA

Yanic Crete has put together a very strong rookie season for the Hawkesbury Hawks Midget AAA team. On a game to game basis he seems to bring something different each time out which has opposing defenders always guessing.  He is a very skilled play-maker but also has great scoring ability and is a threat each shift.

The L’Orignal, ON native was selected in the 1st round, 5th overall by the Hawkesbury Hawks in the 2017 CCHL Bantam Protect Draft. He spent last season with the Eastern Ontario Wild Bantam AAA program where he led the league with 26 goals.

In 35 games of action this season, Crete sits 5th overall in league scoring with 41 points (19G, 22A). He has also suited up in 3 games of CCHL action with Hawkesbury and represented Hockey Eastern Ontario in both the Marlies Holiday Classic and Peterborough Tournament of Champions.

What his Coach says:

Yanic is a dynamic offensive player who has developed a strong 200-foot game to compliment his high-octane offense. His vision and play-making ability is among the very best in our league. He is fierce competitor and will do whatever it takes to win a game. He has also become a premier face-off man for us who can be counted on to win key draws. Based on the level of interest, I expect Yanic to be selected very early in the upcoming OHL Draft. I have had the privilege of coaching him since his Major Atom year and can attest that whichever team selects him will be pleased with him in the future – Carl Robillard – Head Coach – Hawkesbury Hawks Midget AAA

What the Scouts say:

Dominant skater with speed, agility, and power. Has great hands and vision and a near pro shot. Knows how to play and just plays both ways, every shift – Trevor Peters – Neutral Zone

Smart two-way forward. Capable scorer and play-maker. Creative in all three zones. Good hands in tight. Explosive skater who finds ways to be around puck always. Improving with each viewing  Benjamin Gallant – International Scouting Services (ISS)

Highly skilled play-maker with excellent puck management and distribution ability. He sees the ice very well and is underrated on taking face-offs – Conor Mulligan – Hockeyprospect.com

Crete is an accomplished finisher who creates offense in several different ways. In the same shift, you may witness him beat a defender 1-on-1 using his high-end puck skills, and later may see him power his way to the net from the corner with two bodies on him. He is an intriguing blend of power and finesse – Brent Craswell – TheScout.ca

Creative player who makes something out of nothing. Shifty and deceptive 1-on-1 ability. Confident with the puck. Can score goals or be a terrific play-maker. Fun to watch. Can play at the next level – Levi Hill – International Scouting Services (ISS)
