ROOKIE SPOTLIGHT | SPENCER BOWES | PEMBROKE LUMBER KINGS

OTTAWA, ON – Selected in the 11th round of the 2022 Central Canada Hockey League Bantam Protected Draft by the Pembroke Lumber Kings, 2007 born Carleton Place, ON native Spencer Bowes has had a tremendous rookie season after coming in under the radar in his first season of HEO U18 AAA.

Bowes is proof positive that it is not the size of the dog in the fight, but the fight in the dog.  While not physically dominating in comparison to his peers, Bowes in his first 24 games has already recorded 25 points, including 15 goals.  Great statistics on their own, but as a 2007 birth year, this is  an exceptional start to his U18 career.  Bowes is a clear example of perseverance paying off.  He has moved through the levels of competitive hockey from Rep B, to AA, to now AAA.  In each level he has proven that his drive and determination is the key to his overall success.  An extremely strong skater, Bowes uses this ability, determination, and his high hockey IQ to enable him to be a significant contributor to the Pembroke Lumber Kings U18 team.

Those that rate him by his size clearly do not understand what he brings to the table.  No more was this evident than in his position in the 2022 Bantam Draft.  While chosen in a round where little is expected from the player, Bowes has proven the doubters wrong, and this is evidenced by his position in the top 30 of league scoring, and his top 10 position for 2007 born players.  Overlooked for many rounds, Pembroke was more than pleased to offer this young man an opportunity to show his capabilities to the league and teammates.

With an exceptional attitude towards his teammates and coaches alike, he continues to impress the Pembroke Lumber Kings organization.  All are keen to watch Spencer’s development, and how he translates his internal drive and inherent skills going forward.

Prior to his time in U18AAA, Bowes came up through the Ottawa Valley Titans AAA, Ottawa Valley Silver Seven AA, and Mississippi Thunder Kings B programs.
