OTTAWA, ON – Selected in the 6th round of the 2022 Central Canada Hockey League Bantam Protected Draft by the Kemptville 73’s, Greely, ON native Theo Avila has wowed many in attendance with his consistent play and high-end skating as a rookie in HEO U18 AAA.
It is easy to know when Avila is on the ice as his elite skating makes him stand out immediately. He plays with a lot of jump and can use his edges to burn past opponents. He is very efficient on the power-play as he can work the blue line with ease and his vision and awareness allow him to pick apart penalty kill units. He is just as dangerous 5 on 5 as the mix of his high-end skating and hockey sense allow him to be able to jump up when needed and still be able to get back on defence quickly and efficiently.
On the season, his first season of AAA hockey, Avila sits in a tie among all rookie defensemen with 35 points (9G, 26A) in 41 games of action.
Prior to his time in U18AAA, Avila came up through the Gloucester Rangers AA and Metcalfe Jets B Minor Hockey programs.
