ROOKIE SPOTLIGHT | REID CUNNING | HAWKESBURY HAWKS

 

OTTAWA, ON – Selected in the 1st round of the 2022 Central Canada Hockey League Bantam Protected Draft by the Hawkesbury Hawks, 2007 born Vankleek Hill, ON native Reid Cunning has not backed down physically at any point while also chipping in offensively during his rookie season o HEO U18 AAA.

Cunning is a strong two-way 200 foot player, with a very high compete level and plays with a lot of energy. He can play a North South, East West type on of game which he is very successful in doing. He is relentless on the forecheck, plays a physical game, and will finish every check he can which really gets under his opponents skin. He has shown good ability on the offensive side to create a lot of scoring chances with his speed and shot, but has also shown good playmaking ability. Cunning is an old school player that plays the game hard and effective, and seems to make an impact for Hawkesbury every game he plays.

On the season, Cunning sits 4th overall in Hawks scoring with 20 points (11G, 9A) in 23 games of action.

Prior to his time in HEO U18 AAA, Cunning came up through the Eastern Ontario Wild AAA, Eastern Ontario Cobras AA programs.
