OTTAWA, ON – Selected in the 4th round of the 2022 Central Canada Hockey League Bantam Protected Draft by the Carleton Place Canadians, Kanata, ON native Jake Begin has been a big presence patrolling the blue line for the Canadians during his rookie season of HEO U18 AAA.
Begin is a talented right shot offensive defenseman that uses his high level skating and vision to generate scoring opportunities. He is strong on pucks and more than capable of winning puck battles. His explosive first three steps help bring lots of speed on zone exits and through the neutral zone creating odd man line rushes. His confidence and poise with the puck allows him the ability to quarterback plays both 5on5 and on Powerplay units. His edge work and speed grant him the ability to mirror the strongest of opponents while defending the rush and his stick checking is accurate and purposeful.
Character wise; Begin is extremely focused and hard working; he takes his development very seriously and never cuts corners. He holds himself and his teammates accountable; and has a very competitive spirit. He is also very social; personable and positive. He would mesh well in any locker room. Begin has also been described as a leader by both his coaches and his teammates.
Prior to his time in HEO U18 AAA, Begin came up through Myers AAA and Kanata Blazers AA programs.
