OTTAWA, ON – Selected in the 2nd round of the 2022 Central Canada Hockey League Bantam Protected Draft by the Ottawa Junior Senators, Nepean, ON native Calum Hartnell was a standout defender in his rookie season of HEO U18 AAA.
Hartnell is a shifty, smooth skating two-way defensemen, who displays excellent hockey IQ and decision-making skills in all areas of the ice. He has the ability to get up and down the ice with ease which allows him to take more chances offensively. He possessed one of the best one-timer shots across the entire league which he used on various occasions to find the scoresheet through out the season.
Notwithstanding being in and out of the line-up while battling an injury in the regular season, Hartnell totalled 22 points (11G, 11A) in just 26 games of action. He saved his best hockey for the playoffs where he put up 11 points (3G, 8A) in 11 games, as he helped the Junior Senators to the league championship series.
Prior to his time in HEO U18 AAA, he came up through the Myers Automotive AAA and Nepean Raiders AA Minor Hockey programs.
2007 born Nepean, ON native Calum Hartnell was a treat to watch this season. His skating & hockey IQ was next level. Not to mention that lethal one-timer he used various times to get on the scoresheet. https://t.co/5HUSdQhncn pic.twitter.com/AfO5shK3TW
