PLAYER SPOTLIGHT | MAVERICK HAYES | PEMBROKE LUMBER KINGS

 

OTTAWA, ON – Selected in the 4th round of the 2021 Central Canada Hockey League Bantam Protected Draft by the Pembroke Lumber Kings, Stittsville, ON native Maverick Hayes continues to build his overall game and reach a higher level in his second full season of HEO U18 AAA. Within the period of time since his initial drafting, Hayes has shown coaches and scouts alike what a dominating defenceman he has become.

At 6’3, 185 lbs, Hayes combines his size with an outstanding ability to read plays in all areas of the ice. Given his strong skating and high hockey IQ, Hayes is called on to play in all situations, including both Power Play and Penalty Killing. His leadership skills are well recognized as in his first year with the Pembroke Lumber Kings team he was named an Assistant Captain, and was named Captain for the current year. Hayes progression has been fueled by his personal desire to get better and his ability to translate direction from his coaches into practice. The Pembroke Lumber Kings are very excited for Maverick’s future within the organization and continue to expect big things going forward.

After 23 games, Hayes has 26 points (6 goals, 20 assists) which slots him 3rd overall among league defensemen. He has also dressed in 5 games with the Lumber Kings in the CCHL. 

Prior to his time in U18 AAA, Hayes came up through the Ottawa Valley Titans AAA and Ottawa Valley Silver Seven AA programs.
